VRMAD is an acronym for Virtual Reality Multimedia Access Device. It could possibly become the next "killer" development platform for high bandwidth technologies such as ADSL, G.SHDSL, VDSL and cable modems. Imagine having access to a device that lets you work in a three dimensional world rather than the two dimensional interfaces used in traditional computers. By adding video and "extreme" audio capabilities we hope to extend the user experience to a level that has not been attained by existing devices. The project team will be leveraging the immensely popular Java programming language to create Java applications that will run at accelerated speeds on the VRMAD device. If successful on the first phase of the project, the team will also develop hand-held wireless devices that allow users to access their favorite 3D environments without being tied to a desk-top!
